Terms and Conditions for Participation


Participation in the contest is free of charge. Professional foreign publishing houses may apply for the awards themselves, or be nominated by other persons, institutions, and agencies. Nominees are contacted and asked to complete their applications.

All foreign publishing houses which have translated and published a copyrighted Turkish title may attend the contest. The headquarters of the foreign publishing house must be outside Turkey.

There is no limitation on the genre, or the number of Turkish titles translated by a competing publishing house. The title must be a scientific or a literary work translated from Turkish and published in the past 5 years with an ISBN and copyright in a foreign language.
The members of the Evaluation Committee, members of the Board of Directors of Turkish Press and Publishers Copyright and Licencing Society, their representatives, and first-degree relatives cannot participate in the contest.

The copyright of the competing titles must be cleared by the publishing house. In the event of competing with a title whose copyright belongs to another person or agency; the participant shall assume all legal responsibilities relating to copyright infringements.
Racist, sexist, and pro-terror titles as well as titles that constitute a crime cannot participate in the contest.

Participants that forge the ownership of the financial rights of a title shall be excluded from competing. If such participants win an award, the award(s), titles and all the pertaining benefits thereto shall be revoked.

Upon application to the competition, the participants shall be deemed to have accepted the conditions set forth herein and undertaken to cooperate with the organizer.

Turkish Press and Publishers Copyright and Licencing Society reserves it rights to change the conditions of the competition through prior announcement on its website.

The applications shall be submitted online in English. No other forms of application (including e-mails, delivery by hand or courier) will be accepted.

A hardcopy of the title translated from Turkish shall be delivered to Turkish Press and Publishers Copyright and Licencing Society by hand, courier, or mail. Hard copies shall be exhibited in an exhibition to be organized at the time and place to be designated by the Turkish Press and Publishers Copyright and Licencing Society. Turkish Press and Publishers Copyright and Licencing Society shall not return the hard copies of the titles after the exhibition.

The applicants are obliged to provide full and genuine documentation and supporting materials set forth in the application form.

The applications will be collected online through the İstanbul Fellowship Copyright Awards website, which will be available in Turkish and English, before the deadline for submitting applications.

The applicant publishing houses will be asked to send a list of titles (in the requested template) they translated from Turkish together with ISBN numbers and promotional brochures (in jpg/JPEG; resolution between 150-300 dpi). The file size must be between 1 MB and 10 MB. Files bigger than 10 MB will not be accepted by the application interface, and the applicants will be asked to upload files within the limit.

Supporting materials that will be considered in evaluation of the applications will include documents showing how many copies have been published and sold, which libraries were offered a copy, and whether there were any national or international news stories on the publication.
